Terms of Use

Last updated: 23 October 2026

These Terms govern your use of the Ahoy app. By accepting them at first use you enter into an agreement with BlackTree Software, Greece (“we”, “us”). If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. Who provides the app

The app is provided by BlackTree Software, Greece. Contact, including our single point of contact for users and authorities: info@blacktree.app. We communicate in Greek and English.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and have legal capacity to contract. Use by minors is prohibited. The app is for personal, non-commercial use.

3. What the service is

Ahoy uses Bluetooth to find other Ahoy users who are physically near you and lets you exchange waves and messages directly between two phones, without a server.

For that reason: finding others depends on physical factors (walls, crowds, device models, battery settings); a message is delivered only when the two devices are next in range and may never be delivered; Android or your device manufacturer may stop the app in the background. The app shows you these states and never claims a message was delivered when it was not.

4. Identity without an account

There is no account and no password. Your identity is a cryptographic key created on your device. You are responsible for the security of your device and for keeping a backup.

If you lose your device or uninstall the app without a backup, your data is permanently lost. There is no server copy and nobody, including us, can recover it. The same applies if you forget your backup password.

5. Rules of conduct

You may not use Ahoy to:

We have zero tolerance for this content and conduct. Where it involves minors or imminent danger, we inform the competent authorities.

6. User content, reporting and blocking

Your profile, photos and messages remain yours and you are solely responsible for them. We acquire no rights in them, as they never reach us.

Because there is no server, we cannot review, filter or remove content before or after it is seen. The protection tools are in your hands and are always free: Report, once you confirm it, blocks the person, deletes your conversation with them and creates a record you can email to us; Block is immediate and silent, lasts until you undo it in Settings, and is tied to the person’s cryptographic identity, so a new name or photo does not get around it; Exit removes you from discovery at once.

You can notify us of unlawful content or breaches of these Terms at info@blacktree.app, with as much specific detail as possible. We review every notice diligently and objectively. In an emergency, contact the police first (112).

7. Meeting people

Ahoy shows you people in the same physical space. We do not verify any user’s identity, age, background or intentions. You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users, in and outside the app. Take ordinary precautions: meet in public, tell someone you trust, and leave whenever you want.

8. Paid features

In the Google Play version of the app, Anonymous, Boost, «See who», Megaphones beyond the free daily one and Super Waves beyond the free daily one are sold as one-time purchases through Google Play, singly or in offers. There is no subscription and nothing renews. Google Play shows the price, in your currency and including taxes, before you pay. Purchases are also governed by Google Play's terms and refund policy.

A purchase adds credits to the app on the device where it was made. One Anonymous or Boost lasts four hours from the moment you start it; a Super Wave is used when you send it, a Megaphone when you use it, and a «See who» when it shows you one person who waved at you. Credits are used up; they cannot be exchanged for money or transferred to another person. If you switch Anonymous off within a minute of switching it on, the credit is returned, at most once every ten minutes. A Megaphone used in an empty room is not charged.

Because there is no account, credits are kept only on that device, and Google Play cannot restore credits it has already delivered. To keep unused credits when you change phone, make a backup (Settings → Backup & your data) and restore it on the new phone. Credits are lost if you reset your identity, or uninstall or lose the device without a backup.

As a consumer in the EU you generally have a 14-day right of withdrawal. Credits are digital content supplied immediately: the right of withdrawal ends when they are added, provided you expressly agreed to immediate supply and acknowledged the loss of the right when completing the purchase with Google Play. Your rights if something you bought does not work as described are not affected. Refunds are requested through Google Play.

The following are and will remain free: discovery, waving, matching, conversations, one Super Wave a day, one Megaphone a day, and every safety tool (Exit, Block, Report, safety numbers). We may change prices, offers and which other features are paid in future; this does not affect credits already bought. The version downloaded from our website, for phones without Google Play, has no purchases: Anonymous, Boost and «See who» are open to everyone, while Super Waves and Megaphones stay at one a day.

9. Intellectual property

The app, its code, name and marks belong to us or their respective owners. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for personal purposes in accordance with these Terms. Included open-source libraries are governed by their own licences.

10. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it, which deletes the data from your device.

We may stop distributing or supporting the app or change features, with reasonable prior notice where practicable. Credits you have already bought are not taken away without a proportionate refund where the law provides for one.

11. Liability

The app is provided with the care that can reasonably be expected. You keep all rights granted to you by consumer protection law, in particular regarding the conformity of digital content and digital services (Greek Law 2251/1994, as in force), which these Terms do not restrict.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for: the conduct of other users, in or outside the app; messages not delivered or discovery that did not work in a particular place due to physical or technical limits of Bluetooth or the device; data loss caused by the absence of a backup.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for intent or gross negligence (Article 332 of the Greek Civil Code), for injury to life, body or health, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may amend these Terms for legitimate reasons (such as changes in law, new features, security). Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect, and you will be asked to accept them again. If you do not agree, you may stop using the app.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Greek law. If you are a consumer living in another EU Member State, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence and may bring proceedings in the courts where you live.

Before any legal action, we encourage you to contact us at info@blacktree.app. You may also turn to an alternative consumer dispute resolution body, such as the Hellenic Consumer Ombudsman (www.synigoroskatanaloti.gr).

If any provision is held invalid, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
